Proof of Slander can anyone define "hear say" and how to prove someone is lieing?

so my ex is tryin to go after me for slander, the onyl thing he has is people writing down what they have heard me say, isnt that just hear say? or could that be used as proof? although i havent done anything wrong if people lie how can i prove they are lieing?
