Why do republicans think we can still bully other countries around?

Newt Gingrich is criticizing Obama for shaking hands with Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez at the summit of the Americas. I find that ridiculous. During Bush's presidency, more countries jumped on the "I hate America" bandwagon because of that type of arrogance. It's exactly that Ice Age mentality that has created more terrorists and has made us way more enemies. This isn't the 50's anymore. We can't just bully other nations around and keep installing puppets to run their government so that it fits with our agenda. Those days are over. We should be reaching out to these governments because we may need them as we transition to a global economy.....
