Reading is only one of the ways we learn. Others need to read aloud so they can hear the lessons as well. Some need to draw diagrams or pictures to see. Note-taking during cl actually provides opportunity for complex learning, because you have to interpret what the teacher is saying and then decide what to write down. If you can apply what you have learned in conversations or actual practice then you have internalized the lesson.
