Based on the new travel advisory, is it safe to travel to Guadalajara and then to Lake Chapala?

I am flying into Guadalajara and will have to get transportation to Lake Chapala where my parents live to visit for 5 days. Am weary due to new travel advisory about recent escalation of violence and crime.
