Beef, sauerkraut and beer in a crockpot recipe?

Seems to me like you could just put the three ingredients in a pot and simmer it all day for a delicious stew. My stepmom's friend made us this dinner one night and served it with french bread but I never got the recipe from her! Help, anyone?
