I can't think of this word, Please Help!!!!?

It is similar to mandate and ends in tion or ion and is used to describe the faith people give to an elected official. Here is an example, The president risks losing his electoral ------ if he continues on this course. I know mandate fits in well but its not the word i am thinking of. Its driving me crazy!
